We've raised $3200 so far - we'll do funny stuff (like get a haircut in Uzbekistan or drink fermented mare's milk) for your donations here!
Part of going on this crazy adventure is recognizing our own privilege (that we get to take this trip!) and doing our best to give back. Accordingly, we're asking you (dear friends! kind (and possibly very lost) strangers!) to help contribute funding to three fantastic organizations. The YP Foundation is a Delhi-based youth-led organization headed by close friends of ours that empowers young people through programming on issues ranging from gender, sexuality, arts and governance. Cool Earth is an organization dedicated to stopping deforestation around the world. We are also looking to donate to the Ecuadorian Red Cross, which is assisting in the wake of the April earthquake. Find our challenge-based fundraising site here!
Our overall goal is 5000 USD (woo!). The first $3000 that is donated will go straight to these two organizations. After that, we'd like to raise money to cover the costs of the car (about ~1500 USD) . Any money raised after that will be split - 50% to our charities, 50% to our visas & mechanic costs. Please let us know if you have any questions. Read on for more information about our charities, or skip to donating here!

ONE RACE, THREE CAUSES
COOL EARTH
Each minute, nearly 150 acres of rainforest are destroyed, releasing nearly 40,000 tonnes of CO2 into the environment – the equivalent of 4,800 laps around the planet. The Cool Earth Foundation, the official charity of the 2016 Mongol Rally, is committed to halting the destruction of these ecosystems. Cool Earth has saved over 330,000 acres of forest, and has shielded millions more from destruction |
THE YP FOUNDATION
The YP Foundation (TYPF) is an Indian youth -run and -led organization that supports and enables young people to create programmes and influence policies in the areas of gender, sexuality, health, education, the arts and governance. TYPF promotes, protects and advances young people’s human rights by building feminist leadership, and strengthening youth-led initiatives and movements in India. |
RED CROSS - ECUADOR
The Red Cross has been vital to the recovery effort in Ecuador after the April 2016 earthquake. From the IFRC: "More than 800 volunteers and staff from the Ecuadorian Red Cross have been active following the earthquake which has killed over 230 people and left more than 1,500 injured. In addition to search and rescue operations, the Red Cross has also provided psychosocial support and first aid." |
CHALLENGES
We know parting with hard-earned cash is not always easy, but the giving is better when the cause is right. As an added incentive, we are willing to leave our dignity in England and subject ourselves to torture of many different sorts. Check out the fun-raiser challenges below -- if you donate, we'll do it!
Get a haircut in UzbekistanCan someone Yelp haircuts in Tashkent? David will get a haircut in Uzbekistan if this challenge receives $100!
Drink fermented mare's milkMongolians calls it Airag, while others call it Kumis (koumiss), but what it is is a fermented dairy drink made from mare's milk. While the reviews on the taste of Airag are pretty mixed, we are exited to give the drink a try!
